Dr Wong graduated from the University of Singapore in 1976. He did his initial dermatology training in the United Kingdom where he worked under Professor John AA Hunter and Dr Paul Buxton at the Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh when he developed an interest in Contact Dermatitis. He then, attended a full time course at the University of Wales’ Diploma of Dermatological Science where he topped the class with a distinction.
He joined the newly setup National Skin Centre in 1988 to complete his dermatology training. At the National Skin Centre, he trained under Prof Goh Chee Leok in Contact Dermatitis. He ran the Contact Dermatitis Clinic with Prof Goh and Dr Ng See Ket while he was working there. His other passion was teaching and he taught Medical Students, Medical Officers, General Practitioners and Dermatology trainees. He left as a Consultant to start his own practice at Mt Elizabeth in 1996. After 17 years of practice, he semi retired and has been working at the Skin Physicians part time since 2014.
He consults in general dermatology with a special interest in Eczema especially contact allergy. Being able to find the cause of the eczema is his ultimate goal. He also has experience looking after cancer patients with their skin problems.
In the past he has written papers with an emphasis on Contact Allergy. He and the Contact Dermatitis team at NSC, reported Grass and Uniform allergies in National Servicemen. He was also the first to report success using PUVA for pigmented purpuric dermatoses with Dr KV Ratnam.
